Update – Praying for the New Year
Prayer is the single most important ministry of the church. There is a necessity of prayer that is vital for everything we do in God. However, it’s not always easy to know what to pray for and how to pray for it. Paul calls that “our weakness.”” (Romans 8:26–27). It is because of this, that the apostle Paul emphasizes our need of the Holy Spirit’s guidance for our prayers.
The key to effective praying is learning how to be so related to the Holy Spirit that we can submit to the Him. That’s why Paul says in Romans 8: 26–27, “. . . the Spirit Himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words.”
Through prayer, He enlightens us and burdens us with His mind and heart. We don’t want to present the Holy Spirit with our good ideas in this New Year, but have our minds enlightened by His God ideas.
When the Holy Spirit moves in and renews our minds, then we begin to understand the will of God, and we begin to know how to pray according to His will. (Romans 12:2, Ephesians 4:23).
I believe there is a call of God on all churches to pray, but that the Lord is specifically calling us in this New Year to a higher level and greater engagement in prayer.
For this reason, we are launching a major prayer initiative in the New Year with evenings of prayer and wordship to enable us to breakthrough and unlock all that God wants for us as a church. These evenings of prayer and worship will take us into a deeper, richer intimacy with the Lord to release more of his anointing and a greater measure of his prophetic gifting and presence. Look out for more details soon.
Let us then continue to pray in seeking His heart and will in the mission and outreach of our church for this coming New Year.
‘In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans. And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for God’s people in accordance with the will of God’.
Romans 8: 26
May every blessing in Christ be yours in this coming New Year.
